Greece seeks industrial growth through defense procurement

Greece is preparing to spend €30 billion on defense procurement programs, focusing on converting spending into industrial know-how and production opportunities for domestic companies. The “Achilles Shield” program is expected to be a primary test of this strategy. Additionally, the approximately €3 billion Greek Dome program aims for at least 25% Greek industrial participation, targeting €700–750 million in local value.

The FDI frigate program serves as a key example of international industrial integration. After Greece became the first international customer for Naval Group’s FDI frigates, Sweden signed a €4.3 billion contract on August 31 to acquire four of these vessels. This expansion of the FDI platform creates potential opportunities for Greek companies that have successfully integrated into the international production chain.
