Greece sees rising property prices and record airport passenger traffic

Greece is experiencing significant growth in both its real estate and aviation sectors. According to Bank of Greece data, apartment prices rose by an annual rate of 5.5% in the second quarter of 2026. New apartments saw a 6.2% increase, while older properties rose by 5.0%. Notably, price hikes were most pronounced in other regions of the country (7.1%) and large cities outside of Athens and Thessaloniki (5.4%), compared to 5.0% in Athens and 4.7% in Thessaloniki.

Simultaneously, the Greek aviation sector is seeing record-breaking passenger numbers. During the first eight months of 2026, passenger traffic across the country's 39 airports is expected to exceed 60 million, representing an increase of over 4.5% compared to the same period in 2025. Athens International Airport specifically reported 23.71 million passengers in the first eight months, a 4.4% increase over the previous year, with August setting a historic record by surpassing 4 million passengers.
