Greece tourism boom projected to continue through 2027

Greece is experiencing a sustained tourism boom, with projections suggesting high demand from European travelers will continue through 2027. According to a survey by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), 29% of Europeans intend to visit the country by May 2027, making it the third most popular destination in the Mediterranean. The survey of nearly 8,000 travelers indicates that 58% are repeat visitors, while 42% plan their first trip. Interest is particularly high among travelers from Romania, Italy, and Sweden.

Beyond travel statistics, the country is highlighting its cultural offerings. The Ministry of Culture is hosting a nationwide event on August 28, where over 100 archaeological sites, monuments, and museums will offer free entry after dark to coincide with the full moon. Additionally, the Greek islands are hosting significant art exhibitions this summer. Notable events include Nari Ward’s “Until That Day” at the DESTE Foundation on Hydra and the “Hydor/Onar (Water of Dreams)” collective exhibition at Hydra School Projects.

Travelers have cited the variety of experiences, local hospitality, and safety as primary reasons for visiting. Demand is also expected to extend beyond the traditional summer months, with many travelers planning trips between September and November.
