Greece sets enrollment criteria for International Baccalaureate programs

Greek Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki has issued a decision outlining the registration process and selection criteria for students enrolling in International Baccalaureate (IB) programs within public high schools.

To be eligible for the first year of an IB program, students must have completed the first year of Lyceum (A' Lykeiou) with a minimum grade of 10 in English, Mathematics, and Modern Greek Language and Literature. If applications exceed available spots, priority is given to students with the highest average in these three subjects, with a lottery used to break ties.

Each IB section requires a minimum of 10 students and can accommodate a maximum of 25. The specific subjects offered by each school are determined by the Teachers' Association before the end of the preceding academic year. In the event of vacancies, schools will announce positions publicly, allowing students from other Lyceums to apply to a single school unit.
