Greece sets September 11, 2026 as start of new school year

Greek schools will begin the 2026‑2027 academic year with a blessing ceremony on Friday 11 September 2026. Teachers return to their schools on Tuesday 1 September, using the intervening days for class organization, curriculum planning and administrative tasks. The first day for students will be dedicated to the ceremony, distribution of textbooks and information about the upcoming schedule; regular lessons will not start until the following day.

The Ministry of Education is expected to issue detailed circulars on the ceremony, book distribution and school operations by the end of summer, with each school announcing exact timings shortly before the start date.
