Greece shows progress in Rule of Law, says Deputy Minister Bougas
Greek Deputy Justice Minister Ioannis Bougas highlighted progress in the country’s Rule of Law sectors, citing the European Commission’s 2026 Report. According to Bougas, Greece is among 13 member states that have shown progress across all recommendations made in the 2025 report.
Specifically, the Deputy Minister noted that for the third consecutive year, no recommendations were issued regarding the Greek justice system. The European Commission has positively assessed ongoing judicial reforms, including the involvement of judges in selecting the leadership of Supreme Courts.
To combat corruption, Bougas referenced the establishment of a Digital Registry of Corruption Cases (Law 5282/2026), which tracks criminal corruption proceedings from initial investigation to final resolution. He also noted updates to the Penal Code regarding bribery and the expansion of relevant legal provisions to include a broader range of officials.
