Greece starts second olive fruit fly spray in North Aegean and Messinia

The North Aegean Region and the Ikaria municipal unit announced the start of a second local spraying operation against the olive fruit fly on Monday, 3 August 2026. The programme covers 11 communities and will use the insecticides PROSPERACE SL (acetamiprid) and Success 0.24 CB (spinosad). Spraying will be halted if rain, strong winds or temperatures exceed 28 °C, and farmers are asked to open their groves, mark safety zones and protect bees and livestock.

The Messinia Agricultural Directorate issued a similar schedule for Tuesday, 4 August 2026, targeting numerous villages including Meligala, Meropi, Chatzis, Charavgi, and many others. Olive growers are instructed to cooperate with spray crews, clear obstacles from orchards, keep animals away from treated areas, and ensure beekeepers safeguard hives. Both regions stress the presence of a responsible scientist and real‑time GPS tracking during application.
