Greece strengthens energy ties with US through strategic partnerships

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis has emphasized the strengthening strategic partnership between Greece and the United States, particularly within the energy sector. He highlighted that companies such as ExxonMobil and Chevron are investing alongside Greek firms in domestic energy resource research. This cooperation includes the first exploratory drilling in the Ionian Sea scheduled in the coming months, marking a significant development after nearly 50 years.

Marinakis also discussed the importance of the Vertical Corridor project, noting its role in diversifying energy supply routes and enhancing Greece's energy security and its capacity to supply third countries. He denied any political blackmail regarding American LNG, stating that all agreements carry significant energy implications.

Addressing recent reports from the Wall Street Journal concerning US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle, Marinakis clarified that there has never been an issue of government threats and stated such a scenario would be unacceptable. The reports had previously suggested a tense interaction involving the Ambassador and the Minister of Environment and Energy.
