Greece strengthens regional defense through ADRION and Saudi partnerships

Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias is traveling to Venice to participate in the ADRION Initiative meeting. This initiative aims to strengthen regional defense cooperation and maritime security across the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, involving defense ministers from Greece, Albania, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, and Slovenia.

Separately, Greece’s strategic involvement in Saudi Arabia has evolved from a purely defensive mission to a broader diplomatic role. Since 2021, Greek forces have been stationed in Yanbu to protect critical infrastructure. This presence, exemplified by the deployment of the Patriot missile system, underscores a deepening partnership between Athens and Riyadh involving defense, energy, and investment. This cooperation occurs as Turkey also seeks to expand its own defense ties with Saudi Arabia.
