Greece summer sales to continue through August 31

Summer sales in the Greek retail sector, particularly in clothing and footwear, are scheduled to continue until August 31. Retailers are looking to boost summer turnover through these discount periods.

Under current retail regulations, businesses must clearly display both the original and the new reduced prices on items or shelves. The original price is defined as the lowest price at which the product was sold within the last 30 days (or the last 10 days for products on the market for less than a month). While displaying a discount percentage like ‘-50%’ is optional, it must be clearly identified as a discount. If more than 60% of a store's products are discounted, the percentage must be displayed in the storefront window.

Experts advise consumers to distinguish between ‘discounts,’ which typically apply to current season items, and ‘offers,’ which often involve older stock with much larger price reductions. Consumers are cautioned to check final prices rather than relying solely on percentage labels to avoid artificial price hikes implemented just before sales begin. Additionally, businesses must inform customers of their exchange and return policies prior to purchase, with legal protections remaining in place for defective goods.
