Greece and Guinea reaffirm support for Morocco's Sahara autonomy plan

Several nations have reaffirmed their support for Morocco's autonomy plan regarding the Western Sahara.

In Athens, Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis met with Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, stating that the Moroccan proposal constitutes a ‘serious and credible contribution’ to the UN-led process and could be the ‘most viable solution’ for a lasting resolution. Greece, which will serve as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2025-2026 term, noted its alignment with the European Union's position and its support for UN-led negotiations.

In Conakry, Guinea has also reiterated its firm support for Moroccan sovereignty over the territory. During a joint cooperation commission meeting, Guinean Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouyaté described the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the ‘only solution’ to the regional dispute. He highlighted the presence of the Guinean Consulate General in Dakhla as a concrete symbol of this long-standing diplomatic solidarity.
