Greece suspends auctions and seizures for natural disaster victims

The Greek Ministry of Economy and Finance, in coordination with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, has announced a 12-month suspension of all compulsory execution acts for individuals and businesses affected by the fires and floods of July and August 2026.

The suspension applies to movable and immovable property and includes auctions, seizures, evictions, and personal detentions. It also halts deadlines for exercising legal remedies related to pending compulsory execution proceedings. Alimony and child support claims are the only exceptions to this measure.

To qualify, victims must be certified by the relevant Regional Authorities and included in state aid or housing assistance programs. The measure specifically targets four regional units: Laconia, Ioannina, East Attica, and Euboea. The effective start date for the suspension varies by region, based on the date each area was officially designated as an affected zone.
