Greece to implement digital checks for expired vehicle inspections

The General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance is launching an extensive electronic cross-referencing initiative to identify vehicle owners who have missed their mandatory technical inspections (KTEO). The process will utilize data from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport's information systems, specifically focusing on individual Technical Inspection Certificates.

Vehicle owners face a fine of 400 euros if found to be in violation. For vehicles with a previous inspection result of ‘Successful’ or ‘Minor Deficiencies,’ a one-week grace period is provided after the scheduled inspection date. However, different rules apply to vehicles with ‘Serious Deficiencies,’ where the focus is on whether the mandatory re-inspection deadline has passed.

Vehicles identified with ‘Dangerous Deficiencies’ are strictly prohibited from circulation until the issues are resolved, and no subsequent inspection date is set for them. The digital check excludes vehicles that are not yet required to undergo periodic inspections due to their age. A violation is confirmed when there is no valid Technical Inspection Certificate recorded in the official systems.
