Greece to Pay €150 Emergency Child Benefit to Hundreds of Thousands

The Greek government will automatically credit an emergency child benefit of €150 per dependent child to the bank accounts of eligible families. The first, larger payment is scheduled for up to 30 June, covering tax‑resident families that have declared dependent children in their 2024 tax return, hold a valid IBAN in the tax authority system and meet income thresholds (up to €40,000 for couples, €39,000 for single‑parent households, increasing by €5,000 per additional child). No application or additional documentation is required.

A second payment phase will be made by 31 August for families whose records have changed after the initial processing, such as the addition of a new dependent child or corrections to previously submitted data. Minister Domna Mikhalidou confirmed that the disbursements will begin shortly after 24 June, with the first credits expected on the Monday or Tuesday following that date. The benefit is tax‑free, non‑recoverable and does not affect other obligations to the state.
