Greece expands resettlement program with 10,000 euro bonus

The Greek government has expanded its Demographic Development Program, offering a 10,000 euro financial incentive to households that choose to permanently relocate to specific remote regions of the country. Following a pilot implementation in Evros, the program now includes ten additional regional units: Drama, Florina, Kilkis, Serres, Pella, Kastoria, Kozani, Grevena, Ioannina, and Thesprotia.

The incentive is provided in two equal installments of 5,000 euros. The first installment can be paid as an advance upon the approval of the application to help cover relocation costs. To qualify, applicants must establish a permanent residence in the selected area, which can be owned, rented, or provided by a relative up to the second degree.

Eligibility extends to single-person or multi-person households, including Greek citizens living in other EU member states and recent university graduates from the target regions who choose to remain there. To retain the full benefit, residents must remain in the area for at least five years. Minister of Social Cohesion and Family Domna Michailidou noted that the updated terms are more flexible, allowing for relocation to urban centers within these regions to ensure access to essential services like healthcare and education.
