Greece launches digital in-hospital prescription system
Greece has launched the In-Hospital Prescription Information System (PSYES) as of September 1, marking a significant step in the digital transformation of the National Health System (ESY). The new system digitizes the entire pharmaceutical administration process for hospitalized patients, providing full traceability from the initial medical order through the hospital pharmacy to the actual administration of the drug.
Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis stated that the system aims to enhance patient safety by reducing errors associated with handwritten orders and duplicate entries. It also integrates approved therapeutic protocols into the prescribing process. For medical and nursing staff, the system is expected to reduce administrative burdens by eliminating manual documentation.
From a management perspective, the system provides the Ministry of Health with detailed data on drug consumption within public hospitals. This real-time visibility is intended to improve the monitoring of pharmaceutical spending, help identify discrepancies, and allow for more efficient procurement planning.
