Greece to launch automated natural disaster compensation system
Greece is set to launch a new automated system for reporting damages from natural disasters and receiving state aid within approximately one month. Announced by Kostas Katsafados, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the system aims to streamline the process by allowing affected citizens to submit a single electronic application and receive compensation within five days.
The initiative was presented during an event held by the Hellenic Insurance Association (EAEΕ) focused on building a more resilient Greece. A key component of this strategy involves establishing a new roadmap for cooperation between the state and the insurance market. This cooperation will be a central topic at the upcoming meeting of the Private Insurance Observatory for Natural Disasters on October 21.
Government officials emphasized that these interventions are designed to strengthen insurance awareness, enhance coverage, and improve fiscal resilience against the impacts of the climate crisis.
