Greece natural disaster resilience and agricultural funding

Overview

The Greek government is implementing new measures to enhance resilience against climate-related impacts. Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Kostas Katsafados announced the upcoming launch of an automated system designed to streamline natural disaster compensation. This system aims to allow citizens to submit a single electronic application for damages, with the goal of providing state aid within five days.

In a related administrative development, the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and the Ministry of Rural Development and Food have opened electronic payment requests for agricultural and forestry projects. These requests, managed through the Integrated Information System of the Common Agricultural Policy (OPSKAP), cover various interventions under the 2023-2027 Strategic Plan and previous rural development programs. Eligible funding includes infrastructure improvements and investments specifically intended to protect agricultural holdings from natural disasters, as well as forest restoration efforts following fires or other natural events.

Under the administrative control of AADE Governor Giorgos Pitsilis via decision A. 1175/2026, the application process encompasses large-scale public works for land improvement and the preservation of forest genetic resources. This initiative is intended to ensure financial continuity and the seamless completion of investments within the primary sector and natural resource protection.
