Greece to launch electric vehicle leasing for 15,000 households

Greece is preparing a new electric vehicle leasing program through the Social Climate Fund, aimed at 15,000 households. The initiative, scheduled for implementation in 2026, focuses on 'transportationally vulnerable' households to assist with the costs of the green transition.

Under the proposed plan, participants can lease an electric vehicle for four years with monthly payments not exceeding 150 euros. The state will provide a maximum subsidy of 12,500 euros per household to cover the lease. For vulnerable families that include a member with a disability, the subsidy increases by an additional 1,500 euros.

The program has a total budget of 170 million euros. Unlike traditional purchase subsidies, this model uses a leasing approach where the state pays the leasing company directly to reduce the monthly burden on citizens. The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is currently finalizing the specific eligibility criteria and terms following approval of the National Plan by the European Commission.
