Greece to launch new smartphone and food voucher schemes in 2026

The Greek government will open a platform in November 2026 for applications for a smartphone voucher of up to €70. The scheme targets citizens with a disability rating above 67% and requires telecom providers to offer at least one accessible device that supports screen‑reading, amplified sound, large keys and visual or vibration alerts. Optional assistive equipment such as hearing aids and Bluetooth devices will also be offered at low cost.

A separate food‑voucher programme will begin in late September 2026. Eligible recipients of the Minimum Guaranteed Income – including those who were entitled between March 2024 and September 2026 – will receive €46 per month on a prepaid card. The €400 million scheme, financed by EU funds, runs until 2029 and allows purchases of food and basic necessities at participating retailers, while prohibiting tobacco, alcohol and gambling‑related spending.
