Greece to launch smartphone vouchers for citizens with disabilities

A Greek government program will provide vouchers of up to 70 euros to assist citizens with disabilities in purchasing smartphones. The application platform is expected to open in November 2026, following a ministerial decision published in the Government Gazette last February.

To qualify, citizens must have a certified disability rate of over 67%. Telecommunications providers are required to offer at least one smartphone model with a maximum retail price of 70 euros that meets specific accessibility standards. These devices are designed to support screen reading for the visually impaired, enhanced sound intensity up to 50 dB for those with hearing impairments, large buttons, and notifications via light or vibration.

The initiative also aims to provide supportive equipment, such as headphones, Bluetooth devices, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, at affordable prices to reduce the financial burden on beneficiaries and improve digital accessibility.
