Greece to receive armed Stryker armored vehicles from US
The Greek Army is set to acquire used Stryker (8x8) armored infantry fighting vehicles through an EDA Grant from the United States. This transfer follows a joint statement from the 6th Greece-US Strategic Dialogue, which emphasized enhancing interoperability through the provision of these vehicles.
Procedural steps are expected to continue in November with Congressional approval, which will be followed by the delivery of a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to Greece. The available inventory includes various versions of the vehicles, specifically the M1126 infantry carrier, the M1129 mortar carrier, and the M1134 anti-tank guided missile carrier.
Notably, the M1126 models are equipped with the M151 Protector remote weapon station manufactured by Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace. This system features two-axis stabilization and integrated sensors, including thermal IR cameras, high-definition CCD cameras, and laser rangefinders. The Greek military may install existing 12.7 mm M2HB heavy machine guns or potentially 40 mm Mk 19 grenade launchers on these stations. Additionally, the M1129 models feature the M121 120 mm mortar system, a version of the Israeli Soltam Cardom.
