Greece: Two elderly people drown in Pieria and Chalkidiki

Two elderly individuals lost their lives in separate drowning incidents at beaches in Pieria and Chalkidiki, Greece, on Monday.

In the first incident, an 83-year-old German national was pulled unconscious from the sea at Papouli beach in Neos Poros, Pieria. Despite being rushed to the General Hospital of Katerini by emergency services, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Platamona Coast Guard is conducting a preliminary investigation, and an autopsy has been ordered by the Thessaloniki Forensic Service to determine the exact cause of death.

In a second incident later that afternoon, an 88-year-old woman was recovered unconscious from the water at Ai Giorgi beach in Nikiti, Chalkidiki. Following first aid from EKAB personnel, she was transported to the Agios Nikolaos Health Center, where she was also pronounced dead. The Nea Marmara Coast Guard is investigating the circumstances of her death, with an autopsy also requested through the Thessaloniki Forensic Service.
