Greece: Two men arrested for arson and fire law violations
Greek authorities have arrested two men in separate incidents related to fire law violations and arson.
In Corfu, a 70-year-old man was arrested for burning waste in an outdoor plot during a period of very high (category 4) fire risk. The individual was issued an administrative fine of 3,000 euros.
In Kalamata, a 60-year-old man was arrested for intentional arson. Investigations revealed he set two separate fires in dry grass on consecutive days in late August. The suspect is also being investigated for four previous fires committed in a similar manner near his property.
The Fire Service continues to maintain high operational readiness to combat arson and negligence, noting that the vast majority of fires are caused by human error. Authorities urge citizens to strictly follow fire safety measures to protect lives and the environment.
