Greece updates reservist records via mass SMS notifications

The Hellenic Army General Staff has sent approximately 100,000 SMS and email notifications to reservists via the gov.gr platform. The mass messaging, which includes references to military ID numbers and Special Marching Orders (EFPs), caused widespread concern and social media speculation regarding potential military mobilization.

Authorities from the Ministry of National Defence have clarified that these notifications do not constitute a call for immediate mobilization or an active deployment. Instead, the process is part of a digital reform to update reservists' records, including age, health status, and residential addresses. This transition from paper and postal mail to digital communication is part of the ‘Agenda 2030’ initiative to modernize the reserve system.

The Special Marching Orders are color-coded: a green EFP indicates the reservist is assigned to a specific unit with duties related to their training, while a white EFP indicates the individual is on standby for future placement based on necessity. Reservists are encouraged to log in to their gov.gr accounts to verify their information and update any changes in contact details.
