Greece implements digital monitoring for vehicle insurance and fees

The Greek government has implemented a new digital monitoring system to enforce vehicle regulations through electronic cross-checking of state databases. Managed by the General Secretariat of Information Systems and Digital Governance, this interoperable system allows authorities to automatically identify vehicles operating without valid insurance, unpaid circulation fees, or expired technical inspections without requiring physical police stops.

Approximately 300,000 fine enforcement actions have already been issued to owners of uninsured vehicles and those with unpaid circulation fees. The new framework includes automated processes for identifying violations, notifying liable parties, and managing objections. Information regarding notifications, fines, and deadlines is accessible via the oximata.gov.gr portal.

Reports indicate that technical issues or delays within the myCar platform have led to significant complications for some users, including instances where individuals faced heavy fines despite having paid their fees and secured insurance.
