Greece vehicle inspections: Mandatory safety equipment requirements

Many drivers in Greece face vehicle inspection (KTEO) failures not due to mechanical issues like brakes or tires, but because of missing or inadequate mandatory safety equipment. Common reasons for failure include the absence of a warning triangle, a fire extinguisher, or an improperly equipped first aid kit.

New regulations are set to take effect on January 1, 2027. To align with European standards such as DIN 13164/2022 or equivalent ISO specifications, the required contents of vehicle first aid kits will be expanded. Under the new rules, kits must contain 16 specific items to ensure higher safety standards.
