The mandatory kit must consist of exactly 16 items, including sterile dressings, gauze, elastic bandages, a thermal rescue blanket, trauma scissors, and face masks. All components must bear a CE marking and be stored in an accessible, unlocked, and resistant container.
The Hellenic Red Cross has provided guidance stating that kits must not contain items other than bandages and pharmaceutical supplies. Drivers are responsible for ensuring materials are renewed regularly—noting the importance of renewal during summer months—and must not exceed a two-year expiration period. Non-compliance will result in penalties under the Highway Code.
As the 2027 deadline approaches, drivers are already encountering issues during vehicle inspections (KTEO). Many are facing inspection failures not due to mechanical defects, but because of missing or inadequate safety equipment, such as warning triangles, fire extinguishers, or improperly equipped first-aid kits that do not meet the upcoming expanded requirements.
