Greece weather: Severe storms and temperature drop expected
Greece is bracing for a period of severe weather characterized by heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning. While Friday, October 30, 2026, will see scattered showers and localized storms in the Ionian islands, Crete, the Dodecanese, and parts of the mainland, conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly starting Saturday.
A low-pressure system arriving from Northern Europe is forecast to bring intense rainfall and thunderstorms across much of the country through mid-next week. Forecasters warn that Sunday will bring particularly heavy and prolonged precipitation, primarily over sea areas, alongside a notable drop in temperatures that will signal the onset of winter. Snow is also anticipated in the mountains of central and northern mainland Greece.
Meteorologists have noted that November is historically a high-risk month for widespread rainfall that can lead to flooding. The current weather pattern is expected to persist until Wednesday, with a potential reprieve beginning on Thursday.
