Greece wine production estimated at 1.67 million hectoliters for 2026/27

Greek wine production for the 2026/27 period is estimated at 1,666,688 hectoliters, according to preliminary data from the Ministry of Rural Development and Food submitted to the European Commission. While this represents a 1.31% increase compared to the 2025/26 period, it remains 7.89% below the average of the last five years and marks the third-lowest production level on record.

The low production volumes are primarily attributed to extreme weather events, specifically spring frosts, and a reduction in total vineyard acreage. For the third consecutive year, production levels are insufficient to meet domestic market demands, creating operational difficulties for wineries. Despite the scarcity, grape prices have reportedly fallen by 30% to 60%.

Breakdowns by category show a 14.97% increase in PDO wines and a 17.8% increase in wines without geographical indication compared to the previous period. Conversely, PGI wines are expected to decrease by 12.71%, and varietal wines are projected to drop by 30.42%.
