Greece's EOPYY to fund 'Προλαμβάνω' preventive program from Sept 2026
From 1 September 2026 the funding for the Greek preventive health programme “Προλαμβάνω” (Prevention) will shift from the national Recovery Fund to the budget of the National Organization for Healthcare Services Provision (EOPYY). The transition is supported by a transfer of resources from the National Central Supply Authority for Health (EKAPY) and does not affect the provision of free preventive examinations for breast, cervical, colorectal cancers and cardiovascular disease. Approximately 6.5 million citizens have already taken part in the programme, with more than 300 000 early‑stage findings identified.
Deputy Health Minister Irini Agapidaki said the programme will continue unchanged, adding that “through ‘Προλαμβάνω’ about 60,000 heart attacks and strokes have been prevented.” Coverage for anti‑obesity medication, previously financed by the Recovery Fund until 10 July 2026, will also move to EOPYY after September.
