Greece's food exports rise modestly in first half of 2026, led by yogurt, kiwifruit and strawberries

Greek exports grew by 0.2% in real terms during the first five months of 2026, according to the National Bank of Greece's "Trends of Business" report. The overall share of Greece in EU food exports increased to 0.59% from 0.56% a year earlier, while the country maintained or expanded its market share in seven of nine geographic regions and nine of eleven product categories.

Europe provided the main market boost (+0.9 percentage points) and the food sector contributed +1.8 points, offsetting weaker performance in minerals, textiles and olive oil. The three leading food products – yogurt, kiwifruit and strawberries – accounted for three‑quarters of the sector’s export growth and two‑thirds of the rise in Greece’s EU share. Yogurt saw strong volume gains in mature Western and Southern European markets, kiwifruit expanded its geographic reach beyond Italy, and strawberries continued to grow in volume and value.

In North America, Greek exports fell but the decline was smaller than that of European competitors, highlighting the relative resilience of Greece’s export strategy despite geopolitical tensions and higher tariff pressures.
