Greece's market authority bars full release of supermarket price‑cut list
The Independent Authority for Market and Consumer Protection (ΑΑΕΑ&ΠΚ) announced that the detailed list of supermarket products with price reductions cannot be published because it contains commercially sensitive information protected by confidentiality clauses. The authority emphasized that there is no deception of consumers and that the law obliges the state to handle the data with seriousness.
For the period 1 April 2026 to 24 June 2026 the authority recorded 1,898 price‑cut entries, representing an average discount of 5.94 %. The reductions span basic grocery categories, with the largest concentration in fresh meat (1 116 cuts, mainly beef and pork), followed by packaged coffee, cheese, olive oil, personal‑care items and other staples. The data are transmitted weekly from obligated supermarket chains to the Ministry of Development and the authority for monitoring and enforcement purposes, while only aggregate information is released to the public.
