Greece launches supermarket price‑cut programme with up to 20% reductions
From Monday 27 July Greek retailers will submit binding proposals to join the National Price Reduction Initiative, overseen by the Independent Authority for Market Supervision and Consumer Protection (AAEA&PK). The scheme obliges participating supermarkets to cut regular shelf‑price levels of essential goods by 5 %‑20 %.
The reference price for each product is the normal shelf price on 27 August. Reductions will take effect on 31 August 2026 and remain in force until 31 December 2026. High‑priority categories include fresh meat, dairy, eggs, pasta, legumes, flour, cooking oils, infant formula and diapers, breakfast foods, soft drinks, laundry detergents, personal‑hygiene items and school supplies. Products must stay in the programme for at least two months.
Consumers will be able to identify participating items through a dedicated section of the PosoKanei platform and standardized shelf‑labels displaying the new prices.
