Greece's OPEKA pays €184 million in June social benefits to nearly 594,000 people

On Tuesday 30 June 2026, the Greek welfare organization OPEKA disbursed a total of €183.858 million to 593,770 beneficiaries across the country. The payments covered 18 different subsidies and social‑support programmes. Major components included a €20.033 million housing allowance for 168,447 recipients, €32.910 million guaranteed minimum income (pre‑paid card) for 144,717 people and €140.847 million of the same benefit without a prepaid card for 591 recipients. Disability benefits of €97.544 million were paid to 209,731 claimants, while a €12.277 million birth allowance reached 9,303 families. Pensions for uninsured seniors amounted to €4.895 million for 11,685 retirees, and a solidarity allowance for uninsured seniors totaled €9.680 million for 23,671 beneficiaries. Additional disbursements included adoption allowance (€0.498 million to 638 families), personal‑assistant programme (€1.861 million for 2,401 participants), and various other supports for diaspora, housing subscriptions, funeral expenses, red loans, vulnerable debtors, professional adoption, children of disaster victims, and members of the Greek minority in Albania. Most credits appeared in beneficiaries’ bank accounts the previous afternoon, with many payments made via prepaid cards.
