Greece's Public Employment Service evaluates pilot benefits and new job subsidies

The Greek Public Employment Service (DYPA) is currently evaluating a pilot unemployment benefit program that provides payments of up to 1,295 euros. The program is already active for 15,000 unemployed individuals selected via a random algorithm, with benefits lasting up to 24 months. The payment structure is front-loaded, meaning recipients receive higher amounts in the initial months, which then decrease quarterly from 70% to 40% of the minimum wage.

In a separate initiative, DYPA has opened a new application cycle to fill 2,700 full-time positions as part of the Just Transition Plan. This program targets regions affected by decarbonization, specifically Western Macedonia, Megalopolis, and certain small islands. Businesses can apply for subsidies to cover employment costs, with grants reaching up to 14,220 euros per position for workers transitioning from sectors like lignite mining and conventional power production.
