Greece's Riviera Tower reaches key construction phase

Construction of the Riviera Tower, a 200‑metre residential skyscraper in the Elliniko district of Athens, has entered its final stage. The project, which began after a building permit was issued in August 2022, is the tallest residential tower ever built in Greece and the highest coastal “green” residential tower in the Mediterranean.

The tower was designed by Foster + Partners together with the Greek firm of Alexander Tompazis, with structural and MEP studies carried out by Buro Happold. It is being built by a joint venture of Bouygues Bâtiment International and AKTOR. In October 2023 the foundation was completed, involving the installation of 300 steel piles 1.5 m in diameter to depths of 35–50 m. This was followed by the longest continuous concrete pour in the country – more than 40 hours nonstop, using eight pumps, over 120 hoppers and about 1,000 delivery trips, delivering roughly 7,500 m³ of concrete and 1,760 t of reinforcement. The tower forms part of a broader redevelopment of the former Ellinikon airport site, which includes new green spaces, underground roadways and other infrastructure upgrades.
