Greece's 2026 Panhellenic Exams show low top scores and high failure rates

The Ministry of Education released results for the 2026 Panhellenic examinations. Out of 89,032 candidates competing for 68,788 university places, 75,109 came from General Lyceums and 13,923 from Vocational Lyceums. The share of top performers remained small, while a large proportion of candidates fell below the admission base in many subjects.

Physics was the standout, with more than 30% of examinees scoring above 18 and 20.57% achieving 19‑20. Latin also posted strong results (22.65% in the 18‑20 range). In contrast, Modern Greek Language & Literature and Ancient Greek recorded the lowest excellence rates, at 1.12% and 1.51% respectively. Economics and Biology saw reduced high‑score percentages compared with 2025.

Failure rates remained high: 55.67% of Ancient Greek candidates scored below 10, and 52.10% of History papers were under the base. Slight improvements were noted in Mathematics and History. The announced scores will feed into the calculation of university admission thresholds, with modest rises expected for science‑tech faculties (driven by physics) and slight declines for economics programmes. Candidates can now compute their admission points using the ministry’s online tool.
