Greek 2026‑27 school calendar set with start dates and holiday schedule

Schools across Greece will reopen on Friday 11 September 2026 for the traditional inauguration ceremony, with regular classes beginning on Monday 14 September. Teachers return a week earlier, from Monday 1 September.

The academic year includes a full list of holidays: the national “Ochi” day on 28 October will be celebrated on Tuesday 27 October; the Polytechnio memorial on 17 November falls on Tuesday, with school observances on Monday 16 November. Christmas break starts after classes end on Wednesday 23 December 2026, with students returning on Friday 8 January 2027. Easter 2027 is late, with Good Friday on 23 April, Easter Sunday on 2 May, and schools closed from Monday 26 April through Monday 10 May. May 1 Labour Day coincides with the Easter weekend and is moved to Tuesday 4 May. Clean Monday falls on 15 March, marking the first spring three‑day break. The Revolution holiday on 25 March is observed on Wednesday 24 March. The school year concludes on Tuesday 15 June 2027, after which the holiday of the Holy Spirit on Monday 21 June falls outside the academic calendar.

Additionally, school buildings will serve as polling stations for the national elections, prompting closures on the Friday before and the Monday after the voting days in spring 2027.
