Greek agricultural agencies begin olive pest control spraying on Aug 6

The Agricultural Economy and Veterinary Directorate of the Zakynthos regional unit announced that, starting Thursday 6 August 2026, an eight‑day pesticide‑spraying operation will be carried out in 20 local communities to combat the olive fruit fly. Growers are asked to place signage, keep fields clear of obstacles, and assist spray crews, while the work will be postponed if weather conditions are unsuitable.

The same directorate in the Messinia regional unit issued a parallel schedule for Thursday 6 August 2026, covering dozens of villages across the area. Olive growers are instructed to cooperate with spray teams, remove livestock from fields before treatment, protect beehives, and ensure safe access for crews. Both programmes aim to reduce pest populations and limit economic losses for olive producers.
