Greek Agriculture Minister Schoinas pledges over €20 billion for primary sector

Greek Agriculture Minister Margaritis Schoinas announced at New Tripoli in Chalkidiki that more than €20 billion will be made available to support the country’s primary sector over the next six years.

He outlined three priority pillars for the funding: restoring confidence in the agricultural payment system, actively negotiating Greece’s position in the forthcoming Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to secure greater flexibility, and promoting investment in the sector to raise added value, farmer incomes and export competitiveness. Schoinas also called for reduced bureaucracy and stronger national flexibility to address the specific conditions of Greek and Mediterranean agriculture.

The minister stressed that sustained, stable planning and avoidance of “easy promises” are essential for the sector’s long‑term growth.
