Greek Agriculture Minister Approves Half‑Billion‑Euro Greenhouse Funding

Agriculture Minister Margaritis Schoinas announced that the Ministry of Rural Development and Food will finance all eligible investment proposals for the construction and modernization of greenhouse facilities in Greece. The programme, originally budgeted at €150 million, received 944 proposals amounting to a public‑sector budget of about €270 million, prompting the ministry to commit nearly €500 million when combined with private capital.

The minister highlighted that modern "smart" greenhouses integrate data sensors, satellite information and artificial‑intelligence applications to optimise water use, energy consumption and input costs, thereby enhancing product quality, competitiveness and resilience to climate change. Evaluation of the applications is underway, with the first results expected by the end of October.
