Greek Agriculture Minister Schoinas Calls for Stronger EU CAP and Flexible Funding in Luxembourg

Greek Agriculture and Food Minister Margaritis Schoinas addressed the EU Council of Agriculture and Fisheries Ministers in Luxembourg, urging the European Union to preserve a strong, truly common Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) beyond 2028. He stressed that greater flexibility must not weaken the EU framework and called for sufficient financing to support farm incomes, investments and the sector’s competitiveness.

Schoinas highlighted the need for continuity, predictability and the avoidance of funding gaps in the next CAP, noting that producers face multiple pressures from extreme weather, rising input costs and geopolitical uncertainty. He welcomed Commission proposals to support fertilizer markets and stressed the importance of attracting a new generation to farming. Schoinas also pointed to the resilience of Greek agricultural exports, including citrus, wine and other primary products, which continue to perform well in international markets.
