Aspropyrgos smuggling ring dismantled by Greek tax authorities

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has dismantled an organized smuggling network following a coordinated raid on a car parking business in Aspropyrgos. Using intelligence from AADE information systems, DEOS enforcement teams uncovered a multi-sector illegal operation involving tax and customs violations.

Authorities seized a significant amount of contraband, including 112 bottles of smuggled vodka, 9,100 liters of fuel (petrol and diesel), and a conveyor belt for tobacco products. The operation also resulted in the seizure of four LPG tankers, a 6mm pistol with 89 rounds of ammunition, and several vehicles—including six lorries, two vans, and three passenger cars—that showed signs of tampering.

Four individuals were arrested and brought before a prosecutor on charges including felony-level tax evasion, smuggling, vehicle tampering, and firearms law violations. Investigators are currently working to locate three additional suspects and identify further connected criminal networks. The operation revealed substantial potential losses in public revenue from unpaid duties and taxes.
