Greek border crossings overwhelmed as Serbian and Macedonian tourists face long queues

The start of the summer tourist season has caused massive traffic congestion at Greece's main border checkpoints. At the Dojran crossing, vehicles forming a line over one kilometre long forced travelers from North Macedonia and Serbia to wait more than an hour and a half, with some reporting waits close to two hours. One driver said, “Сабота наутро, а сезоната веќе е во полн ек… Чекањето е повеќе од час и половина, но службите работат максимално брзо.”

Similar delays were reported at the Evzoní border, where Serbian families with children encountered kilometre‑long queues. A Serbian motorist complained, “Čekamo već tri sata, granica ni na vidiku i ne znamo kada ćemo proći.” Both Greek and Balkan border authorities are operating at full capacity to ease the flow, while officials advise travelers to bring water, food and patience as the backlog is expected to continue throughout the summer weekend rush.
