Greek Chief of General Staff visits Cyprus to bolster military ties

Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, conducted a two-day official visit to Cyprus on August 20-21, 2026. The visit follows a recent trip to Israel and aims to reinforce military cooperation and regional stability.

During the visit, General Houpis met with several high-ranking officials, including the Chief of the National Guard General Staff, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, to discuss matters of mutual interest. He also held meetings with the Cypriot Minister of Defence, Vassilis Palma, to coordinate defense efforts between Athens and Nicosia.

Additionally, the General visited the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK), where he spoke with personnel and officers. As part of the visit, he laid a wreath at the Monument to Fallen Officers and Soldiers to honor those who died in the line of duty.
