Greek citizens must use new ID cards for travel after Aug 3

From 3 August, old Greek police identity cards will no longer be accepted for travel outside Greece. Citizens must hold the newly issued ID card or a valid passport for any overseas trips. The change does not affect the use of old cards for domestic identification or public‑service transactions.

New cards are obtained by scheduling an electronic appointment at a police station. The fee is €10 for the general public (€5 for large families) plus a €0.50 police stamp. Photo services are provided either onsite or by accredited photographers. Appointment slots are limited; many offices have the first available dates only in September, prompting many applicants to seek appointments in other regions or wait longer for service.
