Greek Coast Guard to hire 500 permanent officers outside national exams

The Greek Government Gazette published a decision that paves the way for the recruitment of 500 permanent positions in the Coast Guard (Greek Maritime Police). The move is the first official step before the Ministry of the Interior issues a call for candidates to the School of Coast Guard Officers, and it is part of the ministry’s annual hiring plan.

The recruitment will not be conducted through the nationwide university‑entrance examinations. Instead, candidates with a high‑school diploma can apply and will be allocated according to set quotas: 30 % to a General category, 50 % to a Special Forces category (former Raiders, Paratroopers or Marines), and 20 % to the Submarine Rescue category of the Navy. Applicants must be under 28 years old, meet height requirements (1.70 m for men, 1.63 m for women), have at least a B2 level in a foreign language, and satisfy the first‑class physical‑fitness criteria.
