Greek customs authority launches vehicle tax exemption for families with three children
The Hellenic Customs Authority (ΑΑΔΕ) has issued a new framework granting exemptions from the vehicle registration tax to parents who have at least three children. Full exemption (100%) applies to passenger cars up to 2,000 cc, while larger engines receive a 50% reduction. Divorced, separated or jointly‑custody parents may qualify for additional 25% or 50% reductions, depending on custody arrangements and consent.
Applications must be submitted electronically through the ICISnet system together with required documents such as a valid driver’s licence, recent family‑status certificate, residence proof for EU citizens, and, where applicable, statements regarding protected children – students, those serving military duty or with a disability of at least 67%. For divorced or non‑cohabiting parents, partial exemptions can be claimed without the other parent’s consent, but full exemption requires a signed declaration.
The decision also outlines verification procedures by customs officials, including cross‑checks of the submitted paperwork, to ensure eligibility before the exemption is granted.
