Greek customs strike halts Greece‑North Macedonia border crossings

Greek customs officers began a four‑hour strike on 27 July, suspending work at the Evzoni (Bogorodica), Dojran and Niki (Medžitlija) land border posts with North Macedonia. The walk‑out, motivated by demands for higher pay, overtime compensation and regulated working hours, caused passenger vehicles to be allowed through only at ten‑minute intervals while freight traffic was completely halted.

Macedonian interior‑ministerial officials said their own border services continued operating normally. The National Association of Tourist Agencies (JUTA) warned travelers of long queues and advised planning extra time. Turkish drivers were redirected from the closed Ipsala and Pazarkule gates to the Kapikule crossing into Bulgaria. The strike ended after the scheduled four‑hour window, after which traffic was expected to normalize gradually.
